
Puspen Dey
is one of the foremost Among the present generation of sarodists in India. He was initiated to sarod playing by Sri Atanu Rakshit, a senior disciple of Pandit Radhika Mohan Maitra and thereafter he came under the tutelage of eminent sarod maestro Pandit Buddhadev Dasgupta from whom he received extensive talim.
He obtained his Bachelor of Music (Sangeet Prabhakar) in Indian Classical Music (Instrumental) from the reputed ‘Prayag Sangeet Samity’ of Allahabad. He is an ‘A’ grade artiste of All India Radio & Doordarshan and has had the privilege of performing
in the prestigious ‘National Programme of Music’ of AIR in the year 2003.

In Keeping with his Gharana (which was founded by Ustad Murad Ali Khan, his adopted son Abdulla Khan and Abdulla’s son, Ustad Md. Amir Khan), Puspen’s style of playing has evolved from a thorough blending of the ‘Rabab Ang’, ‘Dhrupad Ang’ and the ‘Veena Ang’ of the ‘Senia Gharana’.
Besides being a good performer, he has an outstanding acumen for teaching. He has had the excellence in conducting lecture demonstrations and workshops in various schools and Universities such as ‘Khairagarh Music University’ and ‘Maharshi Foundation’ in Bhopal. He had the rare honor of being invited as a visiting fellow to the ‘Indira Kala Sangeet Viswavidyalaya’ in Khairagarh in the state of Madhya Pradesh in India, a university exclusively devoted to music and fine arts and the only one of its kind in Asia.
